A member of a football club that saw its former clubhouse go up in flames in a deliberate fire has described the scene as 'heartbreaking'.

The blaze at Emerald Park, which used to be the home ground of Gorleston FC, destroyed the team's former social club on Sunday night (November 13).

David Hardy, the club's match secretary, said: "It was very sad to see the clubhouse destroyed like that.

"There have been lots of happy moments and great memories made there.

"I know it was due to be demolished but to see it go up in flames is heartbreaking," he added.

His sentiments have been echoed on social media, where people shared memories of enjoying Sunday night line-dancing at the social club and watching games at the stadium.

Police are treating the fire as arson.

The land is owned by Pleasure and Leisure Limited, run by the Jones family, who have planning permission to build 97 houses at Emerald Park.
