A unique home inside a converted Norfolk chapel has come up for sale for £375,000. 

The Chapel, located on Mill Road in Banham, dates back to the 1830s, and was built to serve the area as a Primitive Methodist chapel, a branch of methodism which, at the time, was common to rural and agricultural communities.  

In the 1930s the church joined with other branches to form the Methodist Church of Great Britain, which saw congregation numbers dwindle. 

The chapel officially closed for services in 1988 and was later converted into residential use. A spokesperson for Minors & Brady, selling the home, said the present owner has taken “great interest in embracing and keeping the property’s history and character”.

Highlights include its fairly simple but still grand exterior – common to chapels of the period – which also features a stone tablet detailing the date of its build in 1837.

The building also has huge windows and features exposed beams inside. 

The ground-floor living accommodation comprises an entrance hall, cloakroom and open-plan living space on the ground floor, which offers lots of room for hosting and entertaining and includes space for a substantial dining table.

The space is flooded with natural light thanks to double-glazed windows on both sides, and double doors leading into the garden. 

The kitchen area is well-equipped with a matching range of wall and base units, plus an integrated oven with an electric hob, fridge-freezer and a breakfast bar. There is also space for a washing machine. 

Upstairs, the property offers three roomy bedrooms – including one with an en suite shower room – and a family bathroom with a panelled bath and shower over.

The Chapel also enjoys low-maintenance gardens to the front and rear. The latter is surrounded by wood-panelled fencing, which provides a good degree of privacy, and there are several areas laid with decking.
