A world-leading aviation centre in Norwich has launched an initative that will help develop electric aircraft technology.
The International Aviation Academy offers state-of-the-art training to students planning a career in the industry, including allowing them to work on a Boeing 737.
Norwich North MP Chloe Smith visited the facility last week where she met executives from leading aviation firms that had come together to launch the NetZero General Aviation Training Group (NGAT) at the centre.
This project includes the Electrical Propulsion Innovation Zone, which is helping to develop electric aircraft technology.
Located next to Norwich Airport, the academy is managed by Norfolk County Council-owned Norse Group and is part of the Department for Transport’s campaign to boost aviation recruitment.
Justin Galliford, CEO of Norse Group, said: “We are proud to be able to provide this state-of-the-art Aviation Academy, which offers unique workshops and provides an exceptional resource for the industry, and to host this important environmental initiative.
“We look forward to seeing this ground-breaking project come to fruition.
“The work that NGAT is undertaking will see high-value job opportunities for local young people and tackle the issue of skill shortages in the aviation industry.”
