The opening hours of Suffolk's police stations will change from December 1.

Suffolk police announced earlier this year that it would be changing the public opening times of police stations to make better use of resources and to make sure that they suit local demand.

A Suffolk police spokesman said: 'In the current financial climate, we are facing unprecendented demands to make financial savings and it is crucial that all resources are used in the most effective manner, while continuing to provide essential services to the public.

'The changes allow the constabulary to align opening hours to the demand they face, while maintaining an essential presence within local communities in the form of its valued and knowledgeable front desk staff.'

From December 1, Bury St Edmunds and Lowestoft police stations will be open from 8am to 8pm, seven days a week, and public desks at Mildenhall, Halesworth and Beccles will open from 9am to 5pm, seven days a week. This is a reduction of 28 hours a week in Mildenhall and Beccles, but an extra 16 hours each week in Halesworth.

In Brandon, the public desk will be open from noon to 2pm on Monday, Thursday and Friday and in Eye, the desk will open from 1pm to 3pm on Tuesday and Wednesday and from 9am to 11am on Thursday.

The stations will remain fully operational.
