The owner of a new gallery in Sheringham has celebrated the official opening of her art and design-led venture.

North Norfolk MP Norman Lamb officially opened the Red Lobster Gallery on Station Road this month (April 3), with three generations of the Parriss family there to celebrate.

Alison Parriss, who formerly ran creative advertising agency Lindon Parriss, is continuing a family history of Sheringham businesses which started in 1945 with her grandfather's shop Parriss Jewellers and then her mother, who ran the Flower Centre from 1974.

'I love art and design,' she said.

'It was time for a career change and I wanted to open this gallery so that more people in the area had access to art and design-led items. I wanted to create a gallery which wasn't stuffy, and that stocks functional art - things you can use in everyday life - as well as more traditional work.

'One of the products we offer is our Bespoke Art range, you give us your image and we can make it into a Banksy or a Warhol-style picture.'

She hoped to bring art and design to people of all ages and has been sourcing her stock for over a year, some from local artists but others nationally and internationally.

Mr Lamb added: 'I think this is fantastic news for Sheringham.

'This family has been trading in Sheringham for a very long time now, the jewellers going back to 1945 and the flower shop in the mid 70s.

'I think this is a great boost of confidence for the town. I'm really thrilled it has been opened and I'm very privileged to have done the official opening.'
