The lead singer of a Norwich band, who has performed with some of the countries biggest acts, is recording a charity album, after his father was diagnosed with prostate cancer.

Matt Watson was inspired to write the album after watching his father's battle with the disease.

The musician was the front man for band Huck which opened for Scouting For Girls, Billy Bragg, The Undertones and played at Carrow Road with headliner Jamelia.

Last spring his father, Terry, 76, was diagnosed with the cancer which was spreading from his prostate.

'I think I have been pretty lucky,' Terry said. 'My mate said he was going to get checked over because he was going to the toilet a lot in the night, so I went to.

'He was clear but I had it.'

The keen cyclist had five weeks of radiotherapy at the Colney centre and is now on the road to recovery.

But musician Matt, who was performing at the White Noise Festival this weekend, decided to record a solo album for charity, Prostate Cancer UK.

He said: 'I wanted to make an album and dad has had cancer and I put the two things together.

'Dad is proud of me for doing what I've always done with my music.'

Matt is making the album through the Pledge Music website is which fans pledge funds and the album is released directly to them.

He started playing music while growing up in Wymondham and plays all the instruments on the album including percussion, guitar and ukelele.

Mr Watson is recording the album at his Costessey home and has pledged 15pc of the album's takings to the charity.

The main album track is called A New Life - a song about living for the moment which was inspired by his father's battle with cancer.

The 37-year-old said: 'The illness was a shock because you hear the c-word, cancer, but he is very philosophical about it.

'They caught it early and he went and had the treatment.'
