Delicious food and a delightful location will combine when a prestigious food festival makes a rare journey to north Norfolk.

Tapas with a twist is on the menu as the EDP Adnams Norfolk Food Festival lands at The Grove in Cromer.

The Norfolk Tapas and Jazz Night at the hotel and restaurant on Overstrand Road takes place on Saturday September 15 from 8pm and will include a world-famous jazz band with portions of locally-sourced Norfolk delicacies, to combine, blend and compare on the lawns of the 18th century Georgian country house.

The tapas event, which is a first for the food festival, promises home-made and locally-sourced fresh produce to tempt the senses - all while being entertained by the Chris Cooper Piano Trio and trombonist Dave Amis.

The restaurant at The Grove has only been running since Easter, but owner Richard Graveling said in that time it had built up solid relationships with local suppliers.

And it is that emphasis on natural, wholesome food which led to the link up with the Norfolk Food and Drink Festival.

Richard, along with his siblings Chris, Liz, Hannah and Ruth, took over the business from their mother Ann and father John, to run it as a partnership.

His wife, Jo, has also helped with the interior design of The Grove.

He said; 'It is such a lovely house and we felt we were not using it to its full potential, which is why we decided on opening the restaurant. The principle of the restaurant is having local food, cooked fresh to as high a quality as we can.

'The food festival seemed a natural fit for that, celebrating all that is really good about local, natural food.'

Local suppliers used by the restaurant include Cromer butcher, Icarus Hines, Cromer Farm and Health Shop, Jubberwacky Preserves, homemade in north Norfolk, Peter Graham Wines at Wymondham and The Wolf Brewery at Attleborough.

The restaurant also uses home grown vegetables and fruit grown by John in the grounds of The Grove, and chutney, marmalade and elderflower cordial made by Ann.

They also have sweets and chocolate treats made by the group About with Friends, a north Norfolk-based charity which supports people with learning difficulties, whose gardening team also helps out around the grounds.

Speaking about the local suppliers, Richard said: 'They are absolutely brilliant. We have really got good relationships with them.'

The restaurant, which serves an a la carte menu and specials which change daily, is overseen by head chef Gary Parrett.

Mr Parrett said: 'Most of the stuff for the tapas evening will come from a 50-mile radius of Cromer, which has been a challenge in itself.'

The Grove has been a family-run guest house providing high-quality accommodation since 1936 from the en-suite rooms in the Georgian house to the self-catering cottages in the adjacent barn conversions.

There is also an indoor heated swimming pool, table tennis facilities, three acres of gardens and three reception rooms.

The building has been in the family since 1936 when the house and seven acres of land were rented by Robert William Graveling and his wife Hilda, with their three daughters.

The Norfolk Jazz Tapas evening is 25 a head. For more information, telephone 01263 512412, email enquiries@thegrovecromer.co.uk or visit www.thegrovecromer.co.uk.
