He was the first act announced for the 2013 Thetford Forest music season - and it didn't take long for all 7000 tickets to be snapped up.
Paul Weller has been at the forefront of the British music scene for getting on for 40 years and to be able to still sell out venues and bang out a non-stop 100-minute set on a hot summer evening is impressive,
The capacity was less than the previous evening's record at High Lodge for The Script as more space was given for many in the audience to chill out in seats rather than be standing.
The perfect weather helped generate a great atmosphere and clearly a good number of concert goers had made the effort to model themselves on the 'Modfather' himself.
Weller mixed his musical offering with new and old hits from his Jam and Style Council days as well as his solo career.
Early on he got the crowd going with classics such as Sunflower and Ever Changing Mood but things quietened down as he performed some of his lesser known numbers,
That's Entertainment got the volume levels back up around the arena.
Clearly most people were waiting for their own all-time favourites and after Weller and his band went back stage with unfinished business following one encore, they called for more.
And so the boys came back and smash hit Town Called Malice ensured a stirring end to the night.
I still wish he had done Going Underground, but hey, I can't have it all!
I must mention Weller's fantastic band and there can't have been many better drum solos over the 14 years of Thetford Forest gigs than the stunning one by the superb young man with the sticks.
Before Weller took to the stage, London group Toy provided support and showed glimpses of why they have been included in the NME's top 100 bands to look out for.
*Elvis Costello and the Imposters complete the Thetford Forest concert season on Saturday night.
