An expanding Norfolk hospice has been given a boost through a £12,000 donation from a school.

The money was amassed during a year of fund-raising at Gresham's School, Holt.

It has been handed over to the Norfolk Hospice, Tapping House in West Norfolk.

It caters for patients with life-limiting illness, supports carers and provides bereavement support. The charity is currently expanding its services, including inpatient facilities, by relocating from Snettisham to Hillington in a £3.25m scheme.

Charity chief executive Richard Shaw thanked Gresham's for its donation which would go towards the cost of providing a teenage and young adult facility at the new building which was due to open next Spring.

Gresham's raised the money through a number of fundraising events from a sleep-over in an igloo, cake sales, home clothes day to collections taken at the annual House music competition and carol services.

School chaplain Fr Bryan Roberts said: 'As a school we are always trying to get involved in different areas of the community and Tapping House is an exceptionally good cause so we were delighted to be able to support it.'

The school recently hosted a special Lights for Life service in its chapel to remember loved ones who have used the Charity's services over the past five years.

In the coming year the school's charity will be North Norfolk Young Carers, another Norfolk based charity, providing much needed respite time and support to young people who find themselves caring for a family member at home.
