Bunches of flowers have been placed at the scene of a car crash which killed one person late last night.
The tributes have been left on a pile of rubble where the car had partially demolished the brick wall of a front garden on the A1151 Wroxham Road in Sprowston at about 11.15pm last night.
The debris left at the scene, between the Mousehold Lane roundabout and the junction with Fairstead Road, include a wing mirror, car light and part of a number plate, as well as deodorant and sun tan lotion.
One person in the car was pronounced dead at the scene, and two other people in the car were taken to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital with minor injuries.
Police said the occupants of the car, which was the only vehicle involved in the crash, are believed to be from the local area.
Tony Tovell, who lives near the scene, said: 'There was an enormous bang. I went outside, as did several other neighbours. There had clearly been a serious accident and there were two car drivers who had stopped. A couple of drivers, young men, were pretty shaken up and I got refreshments for them.
'We tried to do what we could but the police took over.'
He described the weather as misty at the time of the accident.
Sylvia McCarran, who lives nearby, said: 'It was a really loud bang. I got such a fright because I thought it was in here. Then I saw the blue flashing lights but I could not see anything because of the two fire engines.'
Another neighbour described a sound like a chain, which he thought was the car scrapping against a low garden wall, and then a bang, which he thought was the car hitting the corner of the next property's wall.
The car, which is believed to have been travelling towards the city, appeared to have hit a railing at the pedestrian crossing near the junction with Fairstead Road, before running against a low brick wall and damaging a tree, and then hitting and partially demolishing the next house's garden wall.
A wheel which had come off the car was lying on the pavement on the other side of the road after the crash.
The car suffered serious damage and came to rest at an angle.
The A1151 remained closed until 4.00am while collision investigation work was carried out and the vehicle recovered.
Firefighters from Sprowston and Carrow used enhanced hydraulic rescue equipment to release two people who were trapped in the car.
Shortly after the crash, Norfolk and Suffolk Roads Policing tweeted: 'A1151 Wroxham closed due to serious road incident ongoing. It will be closed for several hours. Please find an alternative route.'
