A new music academy in Hellesdon is being managed by Jacquii Cann, who won ITV's Stars in Their Eyes in 1993 as Alison Moyet.
And her last performance as the 1980s' pop star – known for her bluesy contralto voice, dark clothing, and stage make-up – was given at the academy's official launch on Sunday.
Stars in Their Eyes was a British television talent show that ran on Saturday nights from 1990 until 2006 in which contestants impersonated singing stars.
Miss Cann, who now manages Jennifer Grace Music and Vocal Academy, formerly Ring and Sing, in Hellesdon Park Road, said: 'I performed as Alison Moyet for the last time on Sunday. It took me about an hour to get ready.
'I have had 21 fabulous years of performing all over the country and abroad.
'Last year I came to a crossroads in my life and questioned whether I would be singing when I am in my 50s and 60s.
'I decided that I would like to teach, so I looked into teaching and met Jenny Sadler, who started up 'Ring and Sing' in the city a few years ago, who took me under her wing. Since I joined, we have changed the name and opened up a new venue. Jenny has made me manager.
'This year sees me hanging up my microphone to teach not only singing but stage confidence too.
'We offer lessons to all ages in piano, keyboard, guitar, drums, saxophone and vocals. We also offer exams in all subjects including music theory and teacher training.'
The academy offered 15-minute lessons in all subjects for people to try out on Sunday, and lots of students performed throughout the day.
Miss Cann added: 'The day went really well. We had lots of our students getting up for the very first time in front of an audience, and they were all wonderful. We now have new students joining our ever growing family.'
Stars in Their Eyes remains one of Britain's most successful shows attracting around 13 million viewers for the live grand final at the end of each series.
It has one of the most memorable catchphrases in TV history: 'Tonight (presenter name), I'm going to be...' and was named most popular entertainment show at the National Television Awards in 1996, 1998, 1999 and 2000.
Alison Moyet's most popular songs include 'That Ole Devil Called Love' 'All Cried Out' 'Whispering your Name', and 'Love Letters', is performing at the Latitude Festival next month.
