A man from Tacolneston can claim to have the second best moustache in the country after coming in second place at the British Beard and Moustache Championships 2014.
Jonathan Colam-French has been growing his moustache for two and a half years and entered the handlebar moustache category where he competed against 18 people to come second in the competition which was held at the Bath Pavilion on Saturday, September 13.
'I had a go at growing a beard when I was 19 or 20. It was pathetic,' said Mr Colam-French.
'Something prompted me to grow this moustache but I can't for the life of me remember why. I had tried to grow a beard and then attempted some facial topiary and then just left the moustache. It's an acceptable way to stand out.'
The 43 year-old, who owns a moustache waxes and beard oils company called The Dandy Lions, is proud of his achievement, he said: 'The winner was Jackie Lynn and he's got a beautiful moustache.
'I'm really pleased, coming second to Jackie's moustache is nothing to be ashamed of. He's from Texas and is a member of the Austin Beard Club. I've spoken to him on Instagram from time to time so it was nice to actually meet him.'
Mr Colam-French has now entered three beard and moustache competitions and is looking forward to the Wessex Beardsman competition in April 2015 before the World Beard and Moustache Championships in October 2015 where he hopes his growing tache will be able to win him first place.
'The tache is judged on size and styling and it is also about how you style yourself on stage - I wore a Vivienne Westwood safari suit and a crochet top hat.
'I'm going to let it grow, if it's styled beautifully and it's huge then you're more likely to win. At the moment it is roughly eight inches from tip to tip.
'The moustache is part of who I am, I've always been a little odd but my friends embrace that.'
