Two men face lengthy jail terms after they were convicted of being involved in a 'brief but violent' knife attack in which a man was slashed on the face and neck, on Riverside Road, Norwich.

The victim, a man in his early 30s, received one slash wound to his face leaving a deep scar and another wound to his neck, which came within a centimetre of an artery.

Kamal Hajizada, 25, of no fixed address, and Luqman Ali, 22, of York Road, Great Yarmouth, were both convicted of wounding with intent, following a trial at Norwich Crown Court.

The jury took just over seven hours to convict both men of the offence and police are still hunting for a third man, Salah Hadi, who used a knife in the attack on April 18, but has since disappeared and remains wanted by Norfolk police.

Following the verdict, both men were remanded in custody, and sentence was adjourned until November 28.

Judge Anthony Bate ordered reports on both men including an assessment into how much of a danger they pose.

During the trial Anthony Abell, prosecuting, described the attack as 'brief but violent'.

He said that Hadi and Hajizada actually had knives in their hand, while Ali was an 'onlooker' who drove the other two men to and from the scene.

The court heard they wanted to speak to the victim after he was suspected of being responsible for a theft from a car wash or garage where Salam Hadi worked.

Despite insisting he was not involved in the theft, the victim, who lived in a hostel on Riverside Road, met with Hadi, who was then joined by Hajizada.

The victim told the court that Hadi had slashed his face and Hajizada had slashed his throat.

He said all three men left the scene after the attack and he had managed to get back to the hostel where he got help and was treated by paramedics and then taken to hospital.

Police arrested the men but Hadi, also known as Salam Hadi Ali, is still being sought by police, despite an appeal on BBC Crimewatch programme.

The 35 year-old was described as having links to Norwich, Ipswich and the West Midlands.

Speaking at the time, Det Con Phil Paddon, investigating officer, from Norwich CID said: 'We continue to carry out enquiries in the Kurdish community and with other police forces in order to trace Salah Hadi.

Anyone with information should contact police on 101.
