It's all sweetness and light as a family business expands to bigger premises in Norwich.

Nearly three decades after a local family took over Rush Lighting in Sprowston Road, their business is on the move to a site twice the size.

The shop, which was taken over by Philip and Olive Green in 1987, was the third store to join their Abbeygate Lighting business which already had stores in Felixstowe and Bury St Edmunds.

As the lease on the current store comes to an end the family have decided to expand to premises a stone's throw away in Barker Street.

Hannah Green, from Rush Lighting, said: 'The expansion is exciting for us, we will be stocking lots more lines, lots more styles, more interesting and exciting lighting as well as more homeware.'

The company, which is very much focused on customer service, is still run by Mr and Mrs Green and their daughter Hannah and offers advisory and design services.

The shop, which currently employs seven people, will also be expanding their workforce in the move which will take place in the new year.

Miss Green, who has been working for the family firm for 20 years, said: 'The store is vastly different to 27 years ago. Lighting is forever changing and evolving. LED lighting is very popular now – it saves energy and money which is what people want.'

The Rush Lighting store in Sprowston Road is due to close at the end of January with the new store – renamed Abbeygate Lighting – due to open at 1-11 Barker Street at the end of February 2015.

The old Rush Lighting Store is due to be developed into a Sainsbury's Local store from February 2015.
