A family of five had to flee their mid-terraced home on Winston Churchill Drive, King's Lynn, when a fire broke out into the kitchen and rapidly took hold of the house on Friday night at around 10pm.
Fire crews from Lynn, Terrington, Sandringham, West Walton and Hunstanton tackled the blaze until around midnight. At one point, it re-ignited again on a smaller scale, so the fire service stayed at the scene until around 6am the following morning.
The family, who are originally from the Philippines, escaped without any injuries but were taken to the nearby Queen Elizabeth Hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.
It is believed that the family are staying with friends as they recover from their experience.
Neighbour Daniel Saunders watched the scene unfold at the back of the house.
He said: 'I was upstairs when I heard a big smash, I thought, 'What the hell was that?' then I could see the flames going through the roof and coming through a bedroom window.'
Station manager of the North Lynn fire station, Tony White, praised the firefighters for containing the fire.
'The crews worked incredibly hard to stop the fire from spreading, whilst working in very hot and difficult conditions.'
