An 84-year-old Rotarian has proved that you are only as old as you feel, after he buckled up and climbed the O2 Arena to raise cash for the fight against polio.

Wymondham man Hugh Morgan joined 150 other Rotarians from around the country as he climbed the Millennium Dome in London to raise the flag for the End Polio Now Campaign.

The event on Monday, February 23, which also marked the international Rotary's 110th birthday, was part of the national campaign which, to date, has raised a whopping £21m.

Mr Morgan, who used to own a bookshop in the market town, has been involved with fundraising for polio for years.

And while many would blanche at the thought of his latest fundraiser, Mr Morgan insisted he didn't find the challenge frightening.

'It wasn't really scary - it was slightly strenuous but you were kitted out and clipped on to a cable, so you were quite secure,' he said.

'I like hill walking and I did a parachute jump for my 70th birthday so it wasn't too bad.'

With the help of his fellow Wymondham Rotarians, friends and family, Mr Morgan has been able to contribute £300 to the cause.

The grandfather-of-four said that the climb took around an hour and a half and he estimated that they ventured about 60 metres up.

Adrian Brewer, organiser of the climb, said: 'We organised the climb of the 02 Arena to mark both our continued efforts in the fight against polio and walk for water and to celebrate Rotary's 110th Anniversary.

'As part of this, we have literally flown the'End Polio Now campaign flag high above the capital's skyline.'
