Twelve men are teeing themselves up for their biggest golf challenge yet – to play four rounds in one day for charity.
Organiser Joel Wille, Andrew Prior, Ian and Matt Prudence, Gavin Caney, Kasim Beetlestone, Barry Osborn, Gary Carter, James Dack, Phil Goodman, Terence Wilkin and Steve Girdlestone will embark on their mammoth effort in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.
The friends will attempt to complete 72 holes at Tydd St Giles on Monday, July 13, as they try to raise at least £1,500 for the charity.
Mr Wille, 28, a product developer from West Bilney, near King's Lynn, said: 'Four rounds of golf almost back-to-back may sound like great fun but it will take each golfer something like 16 hours to complete.
'We will tee off at 5am and aim to finish around 9pm, walking at least 20 miles and playing hundreds of shots in the process, making this a very tough and testing challenge.
'Macmillan do such a great job to help and support a vast number of people throughout the year and cancer, regrettably, is close to many, many people's hearts.'
Nine of the group are members at the course near Long Sutton – where they play almost every Sunday morning, having taken up the sport seriously a year ago. None of the 12 has a single-figure handicap.
EDP sports journalist Mr Caney, 27, said: 'I've helped raise money in my uncle Alan Rasberry's memory since he died of pancreatic cancer around two years ago.
'It's a disease which has in some way affected every single one of us who is playing. We'll enjoy it, have a laugh and help each other get round. But it'll be Alan that I think of when it starts to become a struggle in the evening.'
Mr Wille – who also thanked Tydd for their help in supporting the event – added that any donation, large or small, would be greatly appreciated.
