On a sunny afternoon Alan Davies was warmly received by a Latitude crowd bursting out of the comedy tent.
The QI star, wearing what he joked was a shirt from the 12th season of the quiz show, hit a chime with the middle-aged members of the audience telling stories of the traumas of child-rearing and married life.
His tale of a the difficulties of taking his two-year-old daughter to the swimming pool changing rooms drew a hearty laugh from the spectators.
Davies pulled in a large crowd with many having to make do sitting in the sun and watching on the big screen.
While the set never threatened to boil over it simmered along nicely.
The comedian remained in his slightly quirky but understated character seen on television but when he took his leave after the best part of an hour he received a warm round of applause.
