A 'mummy bear' has joined the creatures of Holt Country park.

But visitors to the popular walking and nature spot are safe as she is a sculpture carved from a fallen chestnut tree.

The pregnant bear was made by park volunteer and sculptor Mike Thody from nearby Hempstead.

His wood craft handiwork is seen throughout the park - including Thol the Giant, an angel and a Fish Hut made from woven hazel branches.

The bear is in the recently-created sensory garden at the park which is run by North Norfolk District Council.

Council cabinet member for leisure and cultural services, Becky Palmer, said: 'Mike Thody has brought a great deal of pleasure to those who visit Holt Country Park with his wonderful, unique creations.

'Mike gives up his spare time as a volunteer and we are extremely grateful for the difference he makes to the park and for the enjoyment he brings to others.'

The council asked local children to name the bear.

The winning name - of Ursula - was announced at yesterday's official unveiling ceremony.

Holt Country Park is on the Norwich Road and has way-marked routes suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs.

Facilities include a visitor centre with toilets. Car parking is £1.50 a day.
