A frozen desserts and ice-cream business has scooped a national award for its cartoon-inspired food range.

Icefresh foods on Hempstead Road, Holt, won Best Licensed Food or Drink range category for its Minions ice cream range at this year's Licensing Awards.

The cold treats are based on the yellow, dungarees-wearing characters from the comical Despicable Me films and newly-released Minions film.

Icefresh foods picked up the same prize at the same awards ceremony in 2013 for its Star Wars lollies.

Scott Wilson, brand licensing manager at Icefresh Foods, said: 'We're thrilled to have won this prestigious award not only once but twice. It's a fantastic team effort to win such a fiercely competitive category and we're delighted that our Minions ice creams have been so popular with our peers.'

Icefresh Foods, which employs 15 people, produces a variety of ice creams and desserts under licence for Weight Watchers, Hello Kitty, Star Wars, Peppa Pig and its newest addition, Minions.

The Minions range was launched in spring and is sold in supermarkets including Morrisons, Asda and Aldi.

Icefresh foods, which had a turnover of £27m last year, signed the contract with Universal Partnerships and Licensing to sell the products at hundreds of stores for two years minimum.

Licensed products are a major part of the business and all the production is done in Belgium and Slovenia.
