Neighbours of an 85-year-old woman who died in an accident near King's Lynn have paid their tributes to a 'very independent lady'.

Police were called to Meadow Close in North Wootton on December 24, following a reported collision between a Silver VW Amarok and a female pedestrian.

The pedestrian has been named locally as Ursula Knox who, according to neighbours, lived in Meadow Close.

Ms Knox was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King's Lynn and was transferred to Addenbrooke's hospital in Cambridge with life threatening head injuries, where she died on Christmas Day.

Neighbour Bryan Lemmon, who is in his 70s, said: 'She was a very independent lady. We told her several times if she wanted anything from the shop, give us a shout and we would go and help her.

His wife Pauline said: 'She always had a word with you.'

Mr Lemmon said he saw an ambulance and police car on the corner of the close, near a newsagents called Meadow Stores.

Another neighbour, Michael Frary, 72, said: 'It has just affected us all. It has dampened our Christmas. I used to help her in the garden with little jobs she was unable to do. We all knew her very well. She liked to do everything herself but at 85 there were certain things she couldn't do. She was very well known and had lived here a good number of years.'

He added he believed Ms Knox only had one relative who lived in London.

The investigation is ongoing and police are appealing for witnesses to the incident, which they descrivbed as 'an alleged collision'.
