A north Norfolk business man is celebrating a decade of success running his chip shop.

It all started for Will Watson, 37, who owns Wills Plaice in East Runton, with just £40 in his pocket.

The shop in East Runton had stood empty for a couple of years before Mr Watson took an interest.

He had a meeting with Bernie Parkin who was renting it out and showed Mr Watson around the shop.

His dad loaned him some money, he ordered all the stock and opened the doors on May 6.

The shop has been through some difficult times in the last 10 years, including the recession and petrol increase, but they also had to deal with a fire in 2010 which resulted in the shop being shut for ten days.

Mr Watson, who has three children, says the secret to his success is being positive and never looking back.

He also prides himself on making his own tartar sauce and locally sourced fish and crab cakes.

He said: 'It takes more effort if you do a half-hearted attempt, but it's almost effortless to put your all into something.

'Taking the business on itself was a massive highlight, and being able to run it as successfully as this has been amazing. It was a bit of a gamble starting out with only £40 and the shop having been empty for two years, but it all paid off.'

He thanked his parents and Bernie Parkins for their support, along with his nephew Tieran 'Rodders' Cain who has worked will Mr Watson for four years.

He added: 'I am not sure how I will celebrate, probably just have a bottle of wine with my wife.'
