Devotion shown by these perfectly poised pupils at one Lowestoft high school has led to success in a national dance contest. Last month almost 40 students from Benjamin Britten High School, in Blyford Road, headed to Rotherham to take part in Rock Challenge.

They returned home triumphant from the northern division regional heats after winning second place overall and collecting nine Excellence Awards. With 37 youngsters showcasing their skills at the Magna Centre, a school spokesman said that they had 'put so much work' into their performances and it was 'a real achievement' to have secured the awards.

Corinne Breen, the school's head of expressive arts, said: 'This has been such an amazing opportunity and a real highlight of the academic year. We are so proud of all the students and their talent was clear to see during the competition.'

The Be Your Best Rock Challenge event aims to inspire, engage and motivate young people to make healthy and positive lifestyle choices. This year more than 2,000 students competed in the nationwide competition, with teams of youngsters given up to eight minutes to perform their chosen theme live on stage to an audience of family, friends, VIPs, sponsors and a panel of industry professionals.
