A family are set to a host a fundraiser for a cause especially close to their hearts.

Barry Driver, who runs The Explorers Bar and Coffee House in Briston, is planning a fun day at the venue on June 4, from 2pm to 11pm, to raise money for the Big C and Cleft Lip & Palate Association.

His daughter, Lauren, 23, is due to give birth later this year to a child who has a cleft lip condition and the unborn child is already facing the prospect of several operations which will hopefully give her the 'perfect smile'.

Miss Driver and her partner, Mathew Young, 25, who live in Heacham with their two-year-old daughter, Isabella, only found out at the 20 week scan that their unborn daughter has a Bilateral cleft lip/palate, which affects both sides of the mouth.

They have now been transferred to Addenbrooke's Hospital where they have had a 4D scan which has confirmed that the baby has the condition.

The family are now also facing the fact that the baby may be diagnosed with Down's Syndrome or Pierre Robin syndrome, which causes facial abnormalities.

They have been told the baby will need an operation before she is 10 months old and she will have to have specialised feeding bottles as well as speech and language therapy from 18 months old.

Miss Driver said: 'We have got a long journey and the first couple of years will be a struggle, there are so many complications.'

The pub fundraiser will feature five music acts who are all giving their time free of charge. The music will take place from 2pm until midnight and there will also be a barbecue and other fundraising events including a tombola and face painting, with all the proceeds going to the charities.

Mr Driver, 50, said: 'The whole village has got on board as well, food has been donated by the butcher, the breweries I deal with have donated beer, everyone has really pulled together.'

Mr Driver bought and revamped the bar three years ago. He said: 'I think that is why the locals have got behind us because we have given them a nice place to come back to.'
