Floral tributes have been laid outside the home of a father-of-three who died following a suspected fight at a holiday park near Lowestoft.
Paul Gladwell, 38, from Colchester, died yesterday in hospital after reports of a fight at Pontins holiday park in Pakefield on Tuesday.
He was initially detained by staff at Pontins after what is thought to have been an altercation with another guest, before being arrested on suspicion of assault by Suffolk Police.
While on his way to the police investigation centre, officers became concerned for his wellbeing. He was taken by ambulance, in a critical condition, to the James Paget University Hospital in Gorleston.
A Facebook post from a relative of Mr Gladwell's partner said he was transferred to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge, where he later died.
Over 1,000 people have expressed their shock and sadness at the news on the post.
One person said: 'My heart aches for the family but most of all those poor children. Fly high Paul.'
Another wrote: 'Heaven has gained another angel, so sad. Such a loving and caring man, took me in when I lost everything and supported a roof over my head, words cannot describe how heartbroken I am for you, have a party for me mate and keep it safe up there for me mate, love you always.'
A Go Fund Me page has also been set up in Mr Gladwell's memory.
The incident has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) and an investigation is under way.
An IPCC spokesman said: 'The Independent Police Complaints Commission has launched an independent investigation after a man died following an arrest carried out by officers with Suffolk Constabulary.
'Investigators are carrying out house-to-house enquiries, speaking to witnesses and gathering CCTV footage.'
IPCC Commissioner Cindy Butts said: 'Our thoughts are with the man's relatives and friends at this difficult time.
'Our investigators will be conducting a thorough enquiry into all the circumstances surrounding his interaction with the police.'
