A Norwich beauty therapist has created a crowdfunding campaign to raise money for Norfolk people living with Alzheimer's and their carers.

Kathy Webb, the owner of Palm and Sole, in Bridewell Alley, launched the crowdfunding campaign this week.

Mrs Webb, from Earlham Road, added: 'Norfolk has been able to fund six Admiral Nurses and I'm going to keep them there. The money at event will be given to Admiral Nurses to carry on on-going training.'

Mrs Webb and her family cared for her father for 14 out of the 16 years he had Alzheimer's.

She added there was a 'lack of awareness' of what Alzhiemer's was. This made caring for her father difficult which is why the Admiral Nurses that helped were so valuable.

She said: 'These Nurses make a huge difference to awareness on wards, supporting carers, families and people with Alzheimer's. I want to do something that encourages on-going, open conversation about this brutal illness.

'I feel connecting Alzheimer's to a beauty event will help lessen fear and in turn, help us all find ways to better manage this. By talking about it in a shop I think it's a nice way to break down the barrier, they're scared of it and it doesn't have to be like that.'

An interactive sensory beauty event will be held at the North Bar, on Fye Bridge Street, on September 20, where Mrs Webb hopes to launch five new skin, body and mood products that reflect and aim to ease some of the emotional difficulties carers can experience, including high anxiety, lack of sleep and feelings of isolation.

After the five products are launched at the beauty event in September, 15pc of every product sold in the shop and online will carry on supporting the cause.

All money raised at the ticketed event will go towards the support of the Admiral Nurses and Mrs Webb hopes to raise at least £5,000.

She said: 'The products will be good for the carers. They will help the lungs relax and just help you stop for a bit. It can also help people with Alzheimer's, because calming smells can benefit them.

'I'm going to be doing things like a travel mood roller and spray. You can put it on your pulse points, to help uplift and put you in a gently relaxed mood.'
