Two firms will be sentenced later this year after they admitted health and safety offences after a swimmer was pulled unconscious from a pool at a holiday park near Cromer.

Popular Cromer and Bradfield cricketer and fitness trainer Olly Kimber was underwater for up to five minutes after he was taken ill in the swimming pool at Woodland Holiday Park in Trimingham, near Cromer, on March 3, 2017.

As employers, both Woodland Caravan Site Ltd, of Wyncolls Road, Colchester, and Alan Baugh T/A Foley and Baugh Associates, of Marine Parade, Great Yarmouth, were charged with an offence of an employer failing to discharge the general health, safety and welfare duty to an employee between 12 March 2015 and April 1 2017.

The charge states that between those dates both firms failed to ensure the health and safety of all employees, including the operation and management of the swimming pool to ensure, so far as was reasonably practicable, that persons not employed by the companies, who might be affected, particularly swimmers, were not exposed to risks to their health and safety.

Both firms have indicated guilty pleas to the charges.

Representatives of both companies appeared at Norwich Magistrates Court on Friday (June 14).

District Judge John Woollard adjourned sentencing with a further hearing to be held at Chelmsford Magistrates Court on July 11.

Sentencing is expected to take place in Chelmsford later in the year.

Norwich Magistrates Court heard he is pursuing a "civil claim" for compensation against the firms.

Woodland Caravan Site Ltd did not wish to comment.
