RAYMOND EDWARD FISHER

Published on 17/08/2024

FISHER RAYMOND EDWARD It is with tremendous sadness that the Fisher family share the news that their beloved Ray, 93, died suddenly on August 11th, surrounded by much-loved friends and family. Ray was born on September 13th, 1930 at 57 Orchard Street, Norwich, to Dora and Bertie Fisher. The midwife pronounced him "a little ray of sunshine" and so he was for the entirety of his life. Ray was a devoted husband of 48 years to the late Sybil Fisher and a proud father of daughter Selina. Ray generously and wholeheartedly committed his life to the service of country and the advancement of young people. In 1945, at the age of 15, Ray joined 231 (Norwich) ATC as a cadet and, three years later, joined the RAF. Ray continued his service with the RAF for more than 40 years, including 25 years as CFI of 611 VGS. In 1987, Ray went full circle to become the CO of his former boyhood squadron 231 (Norwich) ATC. Upon retirement, Ray volunteered to stay on at 231 ATC as a civilian signals' instructor and wing historian - a post he held until July this year, having devoted over 78 years of service to the RAF and ATC. Memories of Ray will be forever cherished by his daughter Selina, son-in-law Phil, brother Peter and sister-in-law Von, the wider Fisher-Hylton-Haggith family, and by all whose lives were touched by Ray's limitless talent and kindness. Ray's funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, September 6th, 2024 at St. Margaret's Church, Old Catton, followed by a burial service at Sprowston Cemetery. Mourners are invited to send a floral tribute or make a donation in Ray's memory as follows: Elizabeths the Florists, 87-89 Unthank Road, Norwich. www.elizabeths.co.uk Cheques for this charity only made payable to 231 (Norwich) Squadron ATC Welfare Fund can be sent c/o Gordon Barber Funeral Home, Horning Road West, Hoveton, NR12 8QJ.
