Norwich's cocktail scene has grown drastically over the last few years. Here are some of the best places serving cocktails in the city.
•Lust and Liquor, 2-4 St Benedicts Street
The illuminated sign over the entrance to Lust and Liquor proclaims it to be 'Cocktail Heaven', a claim that is supported by the St Benedicts Street venue's impressive menu. The classic American drinks, all inspired by the owner's travels across the Americas, are prepared in front of customers with a touch of the theatrical and have been described as 'delicious and strong', by one reviewer TripAdvisor. Drinks to try include the new recipe 'Yellowbird Daiquiri'.
•42 King Street
Serving cocktails and world tapas, 42 King Street is an intimate eatery that holds only six tables. On top of the attentive treatment, the bar boasts a range of 'extraordinary drinks' including a 'Norfolk cider sour' and the 'Popcorn Playa' a cocktail complete with salted popcorn syrup – does it get any better than that?
•Frank's Bar, 19 Bedford Street
Tucked away in the Norwich Lanes, Frank's café-bar is a cosy retreat that will both delight and surprise visitors due to its eclectic décor and unusual menu. The bar itself is quaint-looking and manages to exude the laid-back feeling of being in your own home. Stop by and order yourself a tall glass of 'Don't Worry Bee Happy', an intriguing cocktail that combines Old Krupnik honey, Japanese royal honey liqueur, lemon juice and ginger bitters.
•Gonzo's Tea Room, 68 London Street
Quirky and alive are just two of the many words that can be used to describe Gonzo's. The former home of Kartel turned tearoom/bar serves tea and cake to its customers throughout the day and brings out the stronger tipples in the evening. Every drink is made with flair and staff are happy to create any cocktail your heart should desire. With a happy hour in the early evening making drinks great value for money, this venue crammed full of nostalgic memorabilia is a must-visit.
•Mr Postles' Apothecary, 2 Upper King Street
If you're looking for an evening of enchantment, look no further than Mr Postles' Apothecary on Upper King Street. Serving what they describe as an extensive range of 'magical potions and eccentric elixirs', concoctions that will leave you feeling mystical include the 'Cherry Bakewell' and the 'Meringue Martini'.
•Platform Twelve, 12 St Benedicts Street
This friendly piano bar on St Benedicts Street is a great evening. With a wide range of cocktails on offer, including classics such as Carrie Bradshaw's drink of choice (a cosmopolitan) and more unusual mixes such as a 'Honey Fair Collins' made with Quinoa vodka, there really is something for everyone.
