A much-loved statue of Captain Mainwaring from the classic television series Dad's Army has disappeared from its perch on a bench by Thetford's riverfront.
But residents have been asked not to panic, as the statue has simply been put away for safe keeping during landscaping works, and will be back by late September.
The area is undergoing an £8m 'Thetford Riverside' redevelopment including a cinema, hotel, cafes and restaurants.
A spokesman for Breckland Bridge, the joint venture partnership delivering Thetford Riverside, said: 'The area where the Captain Mainwaring statue was situated by the bridge on Bridge Street in Thetford is currently being converted into a new beautifully landscaped area for the retail development. So the statue has temporarily been moved into safe keeping on the site where it is being kept out of harm's way.
'We look forward to having Captain Mainwaring back after his 'rest and recuperation', before the end of September, where he will remain an integral feature for visitors and people working at Thetford Riverside.'
Much of Dad's Army was filmed in the town.
