When icicles hung by the wall, our photographers were out and about capturing the scene.

4. Keeping reasonably close to the edge these skaters, silhouetted against the setting sun, enjoyed some smooth skating on Filby Broad in January 1955. A few hours later the thaw set in.

5. The Winterton to Hemsby road was being searched for abandoned cars after a sharp snowfall caused havoc in Norfolk in mid January 1959.

6. Inspector Jack Golding of the RSPCA at Yarmouth feeding the swans at Hickling during the legendary freeze-up of early 1963. Money to buy the feed was provided by concerned members of the public.

9. Undergrowth which had been cleared in recent weeks made access much easier to a little-known stretch of water at Lowestoft, Leathes' Ham, which adjoins Normanston Park. Workmen were busy in early March 1963 breaking up the ice to allow water through the sluice which drains from the Ham into nearby Lake Lothing.

10. Feeding time for 150 lambing ewes at Castle Rising in January 1979 as farmer Roy Woods takes them a bale of hay. With their pasture covered by a three-inch blanket of snow these Clun Forest sheep had each day been eating their way through 2 cwt of hay.
