This week The Great Norfolk Pub Guide casts it's spotlight on The Fat Cat Brewery Tap.
Before taking over what was once The Cider Shed, landlords Mark White and Laura Hedley-White were TV producers. Their creative telly talents still shine through at what is now The Fat Cat Brewery Tap.
Most nights in this corner of NR3 feature an event that feels not just put on, but properly produced. And, if audience and awards (two key measures of TV success) are anything to go by, Norfolk and Norwich's CAMRA Pub of the Year for 2016 is doing very well, thankyou.
The Mustard TV cameras were there for a Wednesday night visit, and so was half of Norwich! The pub was packed with punters all paying a pound a pop to take on Aussie Jack's Flaming Fat Cat Pub Quiz.
Come another time and a similarly warm and bubbly atmosphere is guaranteed – whether watching Six Nations rugby, regular live music or even an audience with naughty adult storyteller, Yarnsmith Dave.
But as well as the buzz, it's the beer that keeps patrons purring. There's a micro-brewery on site, 35 different cask and keg ales on offer at any one time, and regular tastings and festivals to keep all real ale aficionados asking for more.
The Fat Cat Brewery Tap is a proper pub - one that oozes class, quality and homely charm. It does the simple things brilliantly and doesn't deviate from its mission to simply serve the best beers in the best environment possible.
Open: 12 noon to 11pm Monday to Thursday, 12 noon to midnight, Friday, 11am to midnight Saturday, 11am to 10:30pm Sunday.
Food: Table-wowing cheeseboards are avaliable in three sizes with 24 hours notice (£15 to £50). And just-launched from The Motherchipis the pub's new range of top-loaded chips from Pork & Mindy (pulled pork plus 'slaw and spicy chipotle mayo) to The Wrath of Naan (spicy chicken madras on cripsy chips, wrapped in naan). The Motherchip serves food Wednesday to Saturday.
Takeaways: Customers are welcome to bring in a takeaway with them. The pub provides plates, cutlery and condiments - and they have menus behind the bar too.
