Harry Toffolo's progress into the Norwich City first team set-up should be a huge incentive for the Canaries' development crop, says academy manager Gregg Broughton.

The 19-year-old full-back has been part of Alex Neil's pre-season plans ahead of this weekend's Premier League kick-off after blossoming in a successful loan spell at Swindon.

Toffolo's displays for the Robins earned him England age-group honours and a regular start at the Country Ground in Swindon's run to the League One play-off final at Wembley.

Dmitri Halajko's squad, which beat Ipswich's U21s at Colney on Monday with Josh Murphy scoring a brace in a line up that featuring his twin brother Jacob, Louis Thompson and Jamar Loza, begin their league campaign at Sunderland this coming weekend.

Norwich's young guns also host Chelsea and Liverpool at Carrow Road in the opening weeks before Tottenham's development trip in October is scheduled to be broadcast live on BT Sport.

'That is a fantastic opportunity for everyone associated with the football club,' said Broughton, speaking to the club's official site. 'Twelve months ago the same fixture was shown on television, and it was significant in earning Harry Toffolo a loan move to Swindon Town. Harry excelled during his time away from the club, which shows how crucial such publicity can be in the development of our young players in terms of finding them pathways to progress in the game.

'With that in mind, it is very pleasing to see Neil Adams return in a role which can really assist with that process. Evidence shows the average age of players breaking into Premier League first teams is now 23, so having a loans manager who can identify the best options for those within our academy is vital for the football club.

'The majority of youngsters will take a longer route to reach first team football, so managing the loan path is something of extremely high importance.'
