Neighbours have been evacuated from homes in part of Wisbech today following a major fire at a nearby wood yard.
Fifty fire fighters were at one time called to tackle the blaze at a wood yard in Brigstock Road.
Black smoke was seen gushing into the air from up to 15 miles away.
No one is thought to have been hurt but crowd control has been an issue for police as they cleared the approaches to Brigstock Road for fire fighters to get through.
Photos are emerging of fire fighters tackling the blaze from different directions with some using the garden of a nearby house to douse water onto the flames.
The premises are thought to be used by a local company for manufacturing sheds and eye witnesses have spoken of the 'popping' sound of timber catching alight.
It is too early to say what caused the blaze.
Cambridgeshire Fire & Rescue Service reported moments ago that 'around 50 firefighters are currently tackling a fire involving a building on Brigstock Road in Wisbech.
'There are lots of emergency service vehicles around the area, so please avoid if possible.'
UK Power Network said it hopes to get all homes in Wisbech affected by today's fire back on by 10pm.
'We're sorry for any disruption this may be causing you,' said a spokesman. It is hoped to get all power restored between 7pm and 10pm 'and we may be able to get some customers on sooner'.
Jamie Johnson, Wisbech fire service station commander, said earlier that his firefighters were tackling 'a well established factory fire'.
He said 12 appliances were in attendance with support pumps from Norfolk fire and rescue called in to assist.
'We are advising people to avoid area and keep their doors and windows shut,' he said.
'We are hoping to make significant progress in next few hours '
Crews remain at the site and a fire service spokesman said the building contains a lot of wood so crews are containing the fire ensuring it doesn't spread to other parts of the building.
