A Norwich man has been remanded in custody after appearing in court charged with the false imprisonment of a woman.

Keith Edwards, 37, faces three allegations involving offences said to have been committed against the same woman.

Appearing at Norwich Magistrates’ Court he did not enter a plea to assault, intentional strangulation and holding the woman against her will.

Lesla Small, prosecuting, said two of the charges followed a 999 call made by the woman on April 28 while in a “very distressed” state.

She had told police call handlers that she was locked inside a property in Norwich. Officers called to the scene had to force entry into the property.

Maya Lal, for Edwards, said he would be disputing the claims she did not have freedom of movement.

Edwards, of Elizabeth Fry Road, is also accused of assault after an incident involving the same woman on The Avenues in Norwich on March 11.

He will appear at Norwich Crown Court on May 28 after magistrates declined jurisdiction. A defence application for bail was denied.
