In these changing times keeping in touch with friends and colleagues can be more important than ever…the opportunity to get together and have a chat.

The old saying that a problem shared is a problem halved is still true in what can be a confusing and lonely world for many.

And then there are the memories, the laughs, the characters and the days when so-and-so……

Today there are not so many workplace reunions as there used to be but there is one group which is still going strong.

It looks after the people who worked on the railways in Norwich and Norfolk.

The Norwich Loco Welfare Fund has once again sponsored this year’s annual reunion of Norwich footplate staff past and present and colleagues from other grades and deports are also welcome to join old colleagues.

The gathering is taking place at Sprowston Sports & Leisure Club, Blue Boar Lane, Norwich, on Friday April 12 from 4.30pm to 9.30pm and will be a great opportunity meet up with old pals. A free buffet is provided.

Today Chris Pearson is following in the footsteps of the late John Pipe who organised the annual reunions for many years.

“It is a great way of keeping in touch and an opportunity to find out if anyone needs help,” said John, who was a founder member of the Norwich Loco Welfare Fund and spent most of his life working on the railways.

There have been many changes over the years but the comradeship between the men and women, who did a variety of jobs, was strong and the welfare fund does such good work.

“We look forward to seeing old and new colleagues and friends. It is good to keep in touch,” added Chris.
