A seaside café which was hit with a one star food hygiene rating is back on track after a reinspection.

Peggotty's Café, in Hamilton Road, Cromer, was handed a one out of five food hygiene rating by the Food Standards Agency in November last year, being told it required "major improvement".

The café's owner said the timing of the inspection was "unfortunate" and "did not reflect our usual standards".

Now, the café has received a new and improved four star rating after North Norfolk District Council's public protection team carried out a fresh inspection.

"All the issues were sorted immediately and today's review of our establishment shows this," Peggotty's management said.

"We thank all our customers for the full support and trust given."

The owner of the café said the inspection in November last year came on a day when many of the town's other cafés were closed, which "overloaded our staff and kitchen equipment well beyond our capabilities".

The council has said the café's rating will update on the Food Standards Agency website soon.
