Norwich Cathedral vintage tractor parade for Plough Sunday

The traditional post-Christmas church festival dates back centuries, celebrating the efforts of the farming community at the start of a new year.

Farm vehicles from the Starting Handle Club Norfolk took part in the festivities on January 14, with the Dean of Norwich, the Very Rev Dr Andrew Braddock, and the Cathedral’s canon precentor, the Rev Canon Aidan Platten, driving two of the tractors around Cathedral Close.

Following the procession, there was a special Evensong service, including the blessing of the plough and the seed, while the time-honoured hymn We Plough The Fields And Scatter was sung by members of the Norwich Cathedral Choir.

The Dean of Norwich said: "The farming community plays a vital role in the life of the county and diocese.

"Having welcomed representatives of the farming community at harvest, this was another opportunity to pray for them and to recognise our inter-dependence with the world around us."
