An inquest into the death of a baby girl who died at just six weeks old is due to take place later this year.

A court heard how Luna Cole passed away at the Norfolk and Norwich hospital on Tuesday, June 6, 2023.

The youngster, of Shelfanger near Diss, had been born weeks earlier in Great Yarmouth on Tuesday, April 25.

The inquest was opened by the senior coroner for Norfolk, Jacqueline Lake, at Norfolk Coroner’s Court, County Hall, Norwich, on Thursday, August 8.

The medical cause of death was given as “unascertained” with reference to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome – abbreviated to SIDS.

The NHS describes SIDS as “the sudden, unexpected and unexplained death of an apparently healthy baby”.

While rare – the risk of a baby dying from SIDS is described as “low” – most deaths happen during the first six months of a baby's life.
