A new piece of equipment, costing up to £250k, could be bought by a Norfolk council to help boost local food and drink production.
Broadland District Council said it hoped to be able to purchase “a key piece of equipment” for local food and drink businesses, using funding from the government’s Rural England Prosperity Fund (REPF).
The kit would be located within the Broadland Food Innovation Centre, near Honingham and Easton, in the countryside west of Norwich.
The council has been allocated some £569,552 under the REPF over the coming two financial years.
It plans to use £250,000 of the cash to buy the equipment, which it says would enable food and drink businesses to scale up their production without having to leave the county to do so.
It plans to consult with businesses on what type of equipment would bring the most benefit, and the project is dependent on the government agreeing to the scheme and releasing the funds accordingly.
